Title: Unlocking Creativity - How to Resize Your Google Sites Header with Ease
Tools: Google Docs
Time: 1 hour
Client: Conejo Valley Unified School District
Collaborators: N/A
Challenge
The client was a school district that wanted its teaching staff to each build a website for their classroom. The client wanted a training that would assist their teaching staff with completing this task successfully. The challenge for an instructional designer was that the staff would each have different levels of prior knowledge, and would each experience different pain points that they needed help with. Additionally teachers are very busy professionals with strong unions, and getting a full team of teachers together for a training outside of their classroom hours is a challenging task in itself.
Solution
Rather than walking the entire staff through the full process of creating a website during a traditional staff development meeting, I opted to instead create a broad online library of small video resources, with each video highlighting one step of creating a website. This way each staff member could easily locate and be served only the specific help that they needed. Since the teacher's union had bargained for only a limited number of training hours during the school year, this method of delivery also meant that staff could access this help on their own time, so school administration could reserve their limited number of training hours for meeting the school's other needs.
Result
The result shown above is the final script for one of the videos in the series. The video series would be made available to school teaching staff in order to assist teachers with creation of a Google Site for their classroom.
